as i read this story i cannot help but think that what I experienced at burns bog was nothing but a strange and surreal dream my unexpected encounter while exploring the bog has been recorded as accurately as i can remember given that what I learned on that day would probably be dismissed as the ranting of a madman by any rational human being names of people and places have been changed to protect the innocent it was late october when i decided to visit burns bog in order to determine how my science students from sanatorium elementary might benefit from the opportunity to visit a remarkable wetland with a unique ecosystem burns bog is the largest raised bog in western north america and the only one of its kind in the world i decided to visit the bog on a saturday so I would have enough time to explore most of the trails  unfortunately i got stuck in heavy traffic due to an accident on the knight street bridge
