Novel Presentation:   Interesting Introductions

Engage the audience with an interesting introduction that describes one of the following:

 

  • Visual imagery embodied in a stylistic element

  • Exciting or incredible event (which can be the main problem in the novel)

  • Interesting character behaviour

  • Interesting character quote, "I never knew flying would be so easy."

  • Historical significance (setting and time period)

  • Ask the audience a question

  • Do not start your paragraph with the topic sentence…If you love romance, mystery, suspense…then you’ll love…”Until Death Do Us Part,” by Thurston Howle

 

Also include:

  • Title of book

  • Name of author and illustrator

In Your Own Words, talk about a novel that you really enjoyed reading.  Tell the audience why you liked this book.

  • the main theme of the story

​

  • describe the main setting.

​

  • Plot Summary: What is the story about?​

​

  • Character Analysis:  introduce the main characters and how they change throughout the course of the story​​​​​​​​​

​

  • your favourite part of the story. 

​

  • Personal Opinion:  Did you like the novel?  Why or why not?

                                 

Presentation tips


Volume:  Can the person at the very back of the classroom hear every word you speak clearly?                                                                               

Speed/pace: Speak slowly and do not be afraid to pause                                                                              
pronunciation: practice pronouncing difficult words                                                                           

Confidence: stand up straight and try not to fidget.  Make eye contact with the audience.  Smile when appropriate.
